It never rains it pours wish after 5 years it would get better instead he moved on with ow married her and had a baby with her but can't pay me 2500 he owes me or regular child support. Know its not much but would have got me a car instead I'm worried how I'm going to do it all sometimes it's so unfair Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08822693841988878258noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7377914227915645124.post-77449892671351955172019-11-04T18:03:42.000-06:002019-11-04T18:03:42.000-06:0017-year-old car here, almost 250,000 miles on it a...17-year-old car here, almost 250,000 miles on it and still going. Single parent of twins, support stopped when they were 2 1/2. I was told so many times, "You can't possibly manage with two kids and groceries, etc., with that car" (it's a Volkswagen Golf). Well, apparently, I can. They're about to turn 16 and will be driving that car as I consider my first new (used) car in 17 years. Oh, and I also backed out too quickly from my carport one morning and nearly ripped off my side view mirror and it, too, has been hanging by a thread lo these many years. I adore that you got this gift; what is an "old car" to one is a "wow, did this just drop down from heaven?" for someone else. Oh, and I also love that you had a repair shop that was so willing to work with you; I finally found one and he knows that for me it's a "what critically needs to be done" versus "what it'd be kinda nice to have done" situation.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7377914227915645124.post-26253894717339465772019-10-26T11:21:49.789-05:002019-10-26T11:21:49.789-05:00Love your new wheels, Jenny. Cars are the BIGGEST waste of money per financial gurus. As long as it's safe, reliable, dependable, I don't give a rat's ass what you or I drive. People who do show how shallow they are, and probably have a boatload of debt going on, too. So drive with pride, girl! We're all with ya! :-) And God bless the friend who gave you that beauty!! That is awesome and what a wonderful friend.
I have to share this story given the total coincidence.
Yesterday, I read this post and thrilled by your candor in telling the store, the great reminder that it was about what really does and doesn't matter, and awe in your friends generosity. After work I took my almost 3 year old daughter to the grocery store. As we walked by the car parked next to us she said "mommy, I want a pretty car". I looked at the car and was a little puzzled. Honestly, it looked a lot like the silver car in the first picture. I'll admit, I didn't quite see the beauty. Until I realized, it had a pretty sticker on the back and lovely pink and purple tapestry cloth filling the back window. It was beautiful fabric and it did look very pretty. She had no idea that is was an old car and a little beat up. She just saw the beauty of the pretty fabric and sticker and said we needed a pretty car. The relatively new car she'd just gotten out of clearly had no such appeal and was not in her mind a pretty car at all. If only we all could see the world through the eyes of a 3 year old. I’m a firm believer in “to the death” level partnership with any vehicle that has transported me faithfully from point A to point B without bursting into flames. I cannot for the life of me imagine a non dented pristine car with no history. That’s boring. What a very kind gesture. As to the other "friend" who was so judgy - not cool. No one chooses to ride in a clunker. When I did, I wanted so desperately to say to everyone, "Yes, I know it's a piece of junk, and no, I don't like driving it." Sometimes it is totally out of our control. Still have to get kids to school, get yourself to work, etc. Some people really have a world-of-hurt awaiting them when they cross the finish line. Stay strong and keep writing!Fossilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17373073056018441959noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7377914227915645124.post-90711048002781332492019-09-30T03:35:05.036-05:002019-09-30T03:35:05.036-05:00Bless bless bless that lovely friend who bequeathe...Bless bless bless that lovely friend who bequeathed Boo to you! Bless the generosity of beautiful people! I had a similar experience with my second car - my first car I bought brand new at 21 when I was working and living with my parents and had a disposable income. I drove that car for 16 years, and it was struggling at the end when a massive hailstorm finished it off. By then I was a single Mum and freaking out about what to do for a new car, when one of those friends who is un-ostentatiously wealthy and also does a lot of good with their wealth, called me out of the blue and said he and his wife felt that God was telling them to buy me a car. I was in the middle of a grocery shop and Aldi, and stood there with my shopping trolley in the middle of the aisle sobbing. I wanted to say no, you can't do that for me, it's too much. But what could I do? I let them buy me the car, and I drove that till it was ready to expire too. I got $50 for a trade-in when I went into scary debt to buy the next one.

But I'd far rather be the person stretching an old, well loved car out till the end of its life than someone who takes new and shiny for granted and judges people by their cars! I'm seriously bristling up on behalf of your friend with her clapped out old rust bucket!kitesandkittieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02320281582708624694noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7377914227915645124.post-74413202230764311452019-09-30T00:29:29.344-05:002019-09-30T00:29:29.344-05:00Jenny, you really need to stop making me cry!! I've got a 10 year old car that I am making payments on....and I'm ecstatically happy to have it because up until last August (2018) I hadn't had a car in 7 years. And I've always have a problem with people who judge others by their cars. Listen, I'm driving the same 2005 Corolla that was new to me 12 years ago when I bought it from Enterprise...and I couldn't care less if any shallow people want to judge me. It might not have all the modern bells and whistles and it's not even as cute as your Boo, but who cares...it runs great, gets excellent mileage, is super for road trips, so I'm not gonna replace it till/if it becomes unsafe to drive and not worth the $ to fix. And before that I drove my Dad's '85 Saab that he bought new the same week you and I graduated high school: it was already 13 when I inherited it and I drove it for 9 more years, till it literally wouldn't start anymore and had become a money pit. Well-used cars rock (and so do you)!Jenzihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13922622930737506178noreply@blogger.com
